Many things that are just basic components of their fighting skills are difficult or totally impossible on controller. You talk about people you think are on controllers tracking well, but I'm blown away any time I watch good MnK players shoot. Most of the time, it's us controller players turning crossplay off so we don't have to play against people with objectively better aiming equipment. On mouse, you can do both if your settings are right. Aim assist exists to help make up the difference. Splitgate in particular is challenging because quick turning is so crucial, but on sticks you have to choose between being able to turn quickly and being able to make fine adjustments in gunfights. Shooters would be borderline unplayable on console without aim assist. I've been playing Halo for almost 20 years. Aim assist only exists because a joystick is an inferior aiming tool as compared to a mouse. If we are talking about who is the best then aim assist should be disabled because it has nothing to do with skill. It does not matter if it is not representing the best players because a skilled person using a kb+m could easily lose to a lesser skilled person using a controller if the controller has aim assist.
